Experienced Sports Media Professional and Educator to Lead Center for Sports Communication

5月21日, 2024 — Marist welcomes Andrew Elrick, a seasoned sports media professional and accomplished educator, as the new Director of the College’s Center for Sports Communication. Andrew joins Marist after serving as a lecturer and student media advisor at the University of Vermont and a successful 20-year career that encompassed various facets of sports media, from radio and television to online platforms.

为 Andrew, this is a unique opportunity after spending some two decades in sports media.

“I grew up obsessed with sports, a passion that went beyond simple fandom," he said. "I've been fortunate to use that passion in my career in sports media. Spending years in the classroom, I help students understand the practical aspects of media production and its broader significance beyond entertainment. Having worked with a number of Marist alumni over the years, I knew their reputation for producing hardworking, 有创意的, and passionate media professionals before arriving on campus."

在他的职业生涯中, Andrew spent eight years as a coordinating producer at 哥伦比亚广播公司体育电视网 and four years each as a producer at ESPN and College Sports Television. He also spent time in Germany working for FIBA, the world governing body for basketball.

Andrew earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut, and his master’s degrees from both Quinnipiac University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he is currently completing his doctorate.

Center for Sports Communication offers a major in communications with a concentration in sports communication. This concentration challenges students to read and analyze sports through new lenses, critically examining its societal roles, 包括性别, 比赛, 以及公共政策. 的 program prepares students for careers in sports information and journalism through academic coursework, 实习, and experiential learning opportunities such as Center Field and the ESPN Teaching Control Room.

Andrew starts at Marist on July 1.
